Information on ARB change
October 11, 2011
Dear Hampton Park Residents:
Hampton Park’s Board of Directors has recently voted to accept Design Management Associates’ proposal to manage Hampton Park’s Architectural Review process. This change will improve the time it takes to receive an application, review that application, and the time needed to request and receive more information (if needed). It will also provide a thoroughly explained decision.
Hampton Park’s current architectural review process consists of a board made up of resident volunteers. These volunteers meet once a month to review exterior alteration applications residents submit to make changes to their home or lot. DMA’s process will be similar in approach but will convert the review process from a committee review to a staff review, much like the county building permitting process. DMA will also have the ability to review proposed improvements twice a month opposed to the current once per month meeting. The following fee schedule will apply starting October 15, 2011.
* $150 for additions
* 65 for decks, screening, sheds, fence, landscape, hardscape and extensive landscaping plans (fountains, rock gardens etc)
* 35 for exterior lot modification (Play structures, exterior colors, decorative objects)
These fees will offset the review service provided by DMA. When processing an ARB application, DMA will review the proposed application and the lot’s file for any past proposal history, current surveys and available plans. A DMA inspector will then visit the Lot and inspect the lot layout/home with proposed improvements and take photos if necessary for review and explanations. Once the on-site inspection is complete the DMA inspector will review the information collected and the proposal with Hampton Park’s Standards & Guidelines. If more information is needed or if the inspector needs clarification on the proposal the homeowner will be contacted by phone. DMA will then draft and recommend a decision to be sent by the Association to the homeowner.
This more thorough approach will allow for faster decisions while also providing a professional insured review and a non-biased accurate decision. Below is DMA’s resume and references. Douglas L. Greene, AIA, RS is President of DMA and will be our contact at the firm.
* A registered architect with over 35 years design and construction experience
* A community association professional with 25 years of architectural review experience
* an author of over 40 design standards documents
* Current architectural review manager of Brandermill, Fox Fire, Fox Creek, Charter Colony, Woodland Pond Phase II, Windsor on the James and many others
* Continuity of review approach based on experience in many different communities
* Knowledge of what to look for "between the lines" in submittals, and provide information and decisions without loopholes
* Provides a dispassionate and objective approach to architectural review
